Buriram (Thailand) 17 March 2019
The second round of the Supersport world championship draws to a conclusion, the action having played out at the Chang International Circuit in the Thai province of Buriram. This final day was characterised by extreme heat and humidity. At 2.15pm local time (GMT +7), with an air temperature of more than 35C° and a track temperature of 55C°, the second race of the 2019 season got underway.
Krummenacher, who started from second on the grid, was forced to run long at the first turn due crossed paths, losing several positions as a result. By the end of lap one, the Team Bardahl Evan Bros. flagbearer was lying in eighth place, but the Swiss rider is able to keep calm and maintain focus even in unexpected situations, something he has demonstrated on various occasions in the past. Having spent a few laps further down the field, he began to make up lost ground, proving to have better pace than others. By lap ten, Krummenacher was up to fifth and by lap fourteen, he had passed Vinales to move into third place. But the Swiss rider didn’t stop there. During the sixteenth lap, Randy Krummenacher was able to snatch second place away from Caricasulo, thus earning his place on the second step of the rostrum.
In addition, Krummenacher also scored the “Pirelli Best Lap”, for the second consecutive time, stopping the clock on 1’37.852.
A positive weekend and now focus turns to Aragon (Spain), the circuit that will host the third round of the season over the weekend of 5-7 April.
Randy Krummenacher, second in the general standings with the same points total as Jules Cluzel, leaves Thailand in an optimistic frame of mind, pleased with the result and confident ahead of the upcoming races.
#RK21: “Second place was a good result for me today. After the start, at turn one, I was pushed wide by another rider and had to run long, I had no choice. As a result, I lost various positions and wasn’t immediately able to make those back up. Over the first laps they were fast but then after a while I started to catch up, I had good pace and this allowed me to climb back up to second position. I couldn’t have done more than second today.I can’t wait to get back on track at Aragon for round three of the season. I’ll give it my all once again as I work towards the best possible result.”
